About Us
Paices Wood is part of a former gravel extraction site, owned by Young Estates & Land Ltd since 1961, which consists of extensive woodland, grassland and several lakes located in a narrow valley just outside Aldermaston.
After gravel extraction finished in the 1980's, Young Estates created the industrial estate and other land was restored which later became Paices Wood Country Parkland.
Open to the public with access through Youngs Industrial Estate, this was unfortunately restricted in 2000, as increased security to the industrial estate through electric gates prevented access to the park outside of normal working hours.
Youngs campaigned tirelessly for a dedicated entrance and were finally granted planning permission in September 2010.
The then Pang, Kennet & Lambourn Valleys Countryside Project (FWAG) in conjunction with West Berkshire Council, with funding from the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund and machinery and labour provided by Youngs, completed the new entrance and track just in time for the Grand Opening event.
The new entrance to Paices Wood Country Parkland, giving access to the Park 7 days a week, was officially opened by Richard Benyon MP, Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries, in May 2011. It was a fun packed day, with guided walks, pond dipping, Inflatable assault course, bouncy castle, archery and visits from the local Fire Brigade and Animal Farm.
Going forward, Youngs are committed to maintaining the park for future generations to enjoy and will organise events and Open Days to raise awareness from time to time, so please visit our website for updates regularly and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
